Dear Member,
March’s dinner was an entertaining education in what it means to be the human embodiment of a brand. Supermodel and entrepreneur David Gandy was interviewed by our own Steve Hatch, and revealed the ups and downs of his name and face (and chest) being synonymous with the term “male model”. As several present remarked, it was a deeper examination of the role of brand and marketing than many senior industry leaders are capable of articulating. Another example of the personal stories, adjacent to our daily work, which I have endeavoured to uncover during my season as your Chair.
As you know, we have cancelled our “April” dinner, as a combination of tube strike, and a speaker who might need to travel on that date made it just too risky to go ahead. My apologies to those of you who has already booked. Fear not, our next dinner is a bumper edition to whet the appetite.
On 6th May, the evening before the local elections, we will host a special politics panel. Politicians and expert commentators from the left and right of the political spectrum will join us for a discussion on the changing face of politics in Britain, and whether these elections will redraw the electoral map with Reform, the Green Party, the Liberal Democrats and the nationalist parties poised to surge. Has our two-party system collapsed, and are we now living in a multi-party democracy?
Following a warm response, I will again be sending out a calendar invite to encourage you to save the date. We intend to do so for each future dinner in an attempt to help you to manage your busy lives and diaries.
Since we are more than half-way through my season, I will also take this moment to remind members of their commitment to attend several dinners a year. We depend on your attendance in order to have a thriving club. To that end, booking is already open for all the dinners until the summer break.
I look forward to seeing you at a dinner soon.
Zaid
