MGGB – Sir Nick Clegg

Members

I trust that you are enjoying February. As I said at the end of our dinner on Thursday, I was blown away by Kemi Badenoch. I may not have personally agreed with all her political views but loved her charisma, heart and determination to be with us. She had boarded a plane from Lagos at 4.30am that morning after burying her father that week. She had me at “I’m here because my father would have wanted me to fulfil my commitment”. We owe her a huge debt of gratitude.

Our March speaker is Sir Nick Clegg, the former Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of the Liberal Democrats. He is now President for Global Affairs at Meta Platforms. I think we could fill 2 or 3 evenings of dinners with the ground that could be covered. The role that social media platforms have played on our survival through a pandemic, the online safety bill, what I’ve heard called “Facebook Thursday” and so much more beyond.

I’m overjoyed we have Sir Nick at this time. It will also be a MGGB first, as Nick lives in California he will be joining us virtually for a live Q&A. We will be broadcasting him into the Claridge’s Ballroom. It should be a fantastic evening and I look forward to seeing you then.

The dress code is black tie and the following is the menu for the evening:-

Starter: Mackerel rillettes, peppered rhubarb, Crisp potato, buckler sorrel
Main: Breast of Guinea fowl, Madeira jus, Truffle ricotta tortelloni, fine French beans, glazed fig
Desert: Goat’s cheese and artichoke pithivier

Best wishes
