Dear Members,
I am honoured to be taking on the role of your Chair for the 2025/26 season. Ale has been an inspiring Chair, and led a fantastic season of dinners, which has set a very high bar. I speak on all our behalf when I give her my heartfelt thanks, and I speak on my own behalf when I say that it’s made me rather nervous about how to live up to that!
One of the aspects Ale has led behind the scenes is an increased focus on the club listening to its members and adjusting to better serve their needs and aspirations, without losing some of the much loved traditions of the past. I fully intend to continue in that direction, and to that end would be very grateful if you’d fill in the short survey CLICK HERE – it will take just 2 minutes. My own agenda is to continue to improve the diversity of the MGGB, in terms of members, their experiences, and our speakers. I hope to introduce a little innovation, and would welcome suggestions to that end.
I’ve also heard the requests for more transparency on the way the club admits members, and how our Council works, and I plan to publish that on our website for all to see. Zoe Harris has taken over from me as Membership Secretary, ably supported by a small team. I’m also delighted to be supported by Nick Smith as Vice Chair (aka next season’s Chair) which allows us to plan ahead much better. My thanks in advance to the Council for giving up your time to make MGGB a club we all love. Please feel free to contact any of us with suggestions.
Our first dinner is on Wednesday 10th September and I’m delighted to say that it’ll be a celebration of the England Women’s football team’s triumph in the recent European Championship. Our speaker will be Nikki Doucet, CEO of WSL who run the Women’s Super League. Please join me to hear about the rise of women’s sport, the spectacular rise of women’s football in this country, and the journey ahead.
I’m looking forward to the season ahead, and know I can count on your support to make the MGGB a thriving club.
Yours,
Zaid
