Our last dinner of 2017 took place last week. And I’m sure all those who attended would agree it was a Christmas blockbuster- Box office gold!
The London Gay Men’s Chorus set the tone for the evening with a joyous seasonal medley. And Idris Elba proved to be every bit as charming, cool and charismatic as you would expect of a Hollywood A lister. Edith Bowman drew out some great stories from him on his rise to fame. But he was also thoughtful and articulate on the issues close to his heart- the need to nurture talent, give young people opportunity and embrace diversity in the widest sense. It was an honour to host him.
Our next dinner is on February 7th, when our guest speaker will be Jayne-Anne Gadhia. Jayne- Anne has been CEO Virgin Money since 2007. She oversaw the acquisition of Northern Rock and listing on the stock exchange. She is a great champion for diversity- she led HM treasury’s Women in Finance review. And she has courageously spoken out about her struggles with depression. She is a highly engaging speaker and I am looking forward to introducing her in February. Tickets are still available, and it would be great to see another high turnout for our first dinner of 2018.
I would like to end our year with a huge thank you to all of you- for all your support to me as Chair, for creating such a wonderful atmosphere at our events, and for the spirit of generosity and camaraderie you all bring to the Club. That is what makes the MGGB such a wonderful community to be part of. Long may it continue.
I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and hope that you have time to relax with your loved ones.
Best wishes
Jude
