Dear Members,
Another memorable evening at the MGGB. And a great moment to pay tribute to a legend of TV broadcasting. John Motson delighted the crowd last night with a speech jam packed with anecdotes and reflections on his 50 years with the BBC. Still at the top of his game, the ‘voice of football’ gave us great entertainment value – as well as an ‘exclusive’ running update on the Roma-Liverpool score!
Those who attended also heard me introduce your team captain for next season. I am delighted to be handing over the armband to Phil Smith. As Director General of ISBA, Phil is a fantastic ambassador for and representative of our industry. He has also been a stalwart of the MGGB for many years, and an enthusiastic and supportive Council member. He will be a superb Chair. Congratulations to Phil!
We have two more events this season. Next month our guest speaker is Riccardo Zacconi, CEO King Digital Entertainment. Riccardo is one of the most dynamic, innovative and creative leaders in business today. With an impressive background in strategy and consulting, Riccardo has been at the forefront of the tech revolution. He co-founded King in 2003 as a company focused on browser games, and with the success of Candy Crush, King has become a $billion global business. Riccardo will be sharing his story, the lessons he’s learned in scaling a business as well as looking forward to what’s next in tech.
Phil Smith will be hosting this dinner, as sadly I am unable to attend. I know it will be a great evening, and Riccardo will be a fantastic speaker. If you haven’t already booked, please do!
For our final dinner of the season we will be at The V&A on Monday July 2nd. We will have drinks in the garden, weather permitting, followed by dinner in the spectacular Dome space. Our guest speaker will be Tristram Hunt, Director of the V&A, who will share his vision for the V&A – promoting the UK as being at the forefront of Design and Creativity.
This will be a member plus 2 event and we will be relaxing the dress code (a bit!) to Lounge suits. To cover some additional costs, there will be a small increase to our usual ticket price. But it is an evening not to be missed and I would love to see as many of you as possible for what will be a wonderful end to our season… Booking is now open online.
